How To Apply For Finnish Passport

The application can be done in person by visiting the police station or online. It is always advisable to apply online because it is faster and cheaper. So here is the step to step guide on applying for the Finnish passport…

The current war in Ukraine has been insane and very terrible to say the least. One thing that has gladdened my heart is to see how much the world is united as one, all together, standing against war and injustice. However, the numerous testimonies of people of colour who are trying to flee the war zone but prevented from crossing the borders, is just so upsetting and outrightly annoying.

To think that racism should even rear up its head in times like this is totally outrageous! Why? Some say, it’s because of the colour of their skin. Others say it is because those persons of colour do not have a visa or passport with them. But come to think of it, in times like this, shouldn’t the focus be on humanity? On all of us as one?

How deep has politics and division eaten into the fabrics of humanity? How can we get back to the things that matter? These are questions for you and I to ponder on. Now comes the main reason why I am writing to you today:

In my last blog post, where I shared about the step by step guide to applying for the Finnish citizenship, I promised to share with you guys how you can apply for the Finnish passport. If you have been living in Finland for some time now and would like to know how to qualify for the citizenship, here is a video where I shared about the requirements you have to meet before you can qualify and some of the myths about the application.

And here are the Required documents for Finnish Citizenship application, Step By Step Guide on How to Apply for Finnish Citizenship, important things to note.

After moving to Finland many years ago, it took me quite a while to get the Finnish citizenship as well as the Finnish passport. And this was because I didn’t think I really needed it. It took a little pressure from close friends before I finally started the process and got it after a long wait. In this video below, I shared about my own experience of applying for the Finnish citizenship and passport.

The application can be done in person by visiting the police station or online. It is always advisable to apply online because it is faster and cheaper. So here is the step to step guide on applying for the Finnish passport;

  • Take a professional photograph: You need to take a recent passport photograph if you don’t have one. Just tell them at the photography studio that you are using it for the Finnish passport and they will know what to do. After the photo session, the photographer will send your passport photograph to the police electronically. You will receive a photograph retrieval code as a text message or e-mail message. You will need this code to attach your photograph to the application online.
  • Apply Online: Next thing is to fill in the application online using THIS LINK. When it comes to the part were you input your photograph, use the retrieval code you received from the photographer to attach your photograph to your application. You will be notified right there online if you need to visit a police station. If yes, then select the station in your location or where is closest or most convenient for you to visit. Then pay the application fee online.
  • Book an appointment. Filling a form online isn’t enough in most cases. Like i mentioned earlier, you may still need to visit the police station if it is necessary in your case. During your application, you will be notified if you need to visit the police station or not. To book an appointment, go to our online service. At the police station, you will be asked to verify your identity using either your valid passport or identity card. So remember to take those with you.
  • Pick it up: Once your new passport is ready, you will receive a notification. Visit the police station to Pick it up.

    The Finnish passport is usually renewable every 5 years.

    More information can be found on the website of the Finnish police.

I hope you find this helpful. If you are living in Finland (or even in Europe) and haven’t yet gotten a passport, this is the time to start the process of getting one, especially if you are originally from outside of the EU. Also, definitely share this post with anyone who would need it as well. I know that the world seems crazy at the moment, but I just want you to remember that good always prevails over evil. So we will be fine again and the world will heal again. As for you, if it all gets too much for you to process, it is okay to take a little break from watching the news and get back online when you feel stronger. Also try to do your best to help in any little way you can during this difficult period.

Wishing you Peace and Love now and always.
Warm regards,
Olivia.
